Braces for Teens
The early teen years (11-15) are the most common ages for orthodontic treatment. In most cases, by 12, the permanent teeth have erupted and crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites can be easily detected. Unfortunately, these problems will hardly ever correct themselves so orthodontic intervention is typically appropriate.
Generally, this is a great time for orthodontic treatment because the negative association of braces is not prominent. Many children request braces because their friends have them and they want to join the straight smile club. We like to call that “positive peer pressure.”
