This 12 1/2 year old patient exhibits a developing Class III type malocclusion due to deficient growth of her upper jaw and excess growth of her lower jaw. Her upper canines are impacted ( Fig. 2).

She was treated with full upper and lower braces. The impacted upper left canine was extracted along with the upper right first premolar. At 15 years of age, she had upper and lower jaw surgery to correct her bite. Fig 1. shows the substitution of the upper left first premolar into the position of the extracted canine. Note the dramatic improvement in the overall facial balance.
